Author, criminal lawyer, ICT enabler, Human Rights Activist, Regional Advisor to UNESCO Centre, a former Addl. Public Prosecutor for the Government of Tamil Nadu, and a social worker in his home town of Chennai in Tamil Nadu, Mr.Hasan Mohammed Jinnah brings a world of refined experience to all his worlds.

Stepping Forward – Everyday!

Hasan Mohammed Jinnah’s legal career began in 1999, when he shot to limelight by taking up a few public interest litigations and won them in favour of the underdogs, in the High Court of Chennai, India. A human rights activist, Mr.Jinnah has been one of the most vocal and influential advocates for the entitlements of women in particular, and has often placed gender issues under violation of human rights radar.  He is a technology strategist and his ICT expertise has helped bridge gaps between policy making and information technology, predominantly in the field of education for his home State.

Through his appointment as the Advisor to UNESCO, Asia-Pacific for Human Rights and ICT Mr.Jinnah brings to the UNESCO the right mix of legal and human rights expertise, and a personal commitment to advancing the UNESCO’s agenda in the region.

Mr.Jinnah authors articles, columns and op-eds in a range of online and offline publications, both in English and in vernacular. He is a well-respected speaker in the educational circles and is known for his passionate speeches addressing youth of India, touching upon India and its relevance in a globalized economy, literacy, the urgent need to bridge the digital divide, human rights, freedom of the press, Indian culture and India’s technology contribution to a shrinking globe.

Born in 1977, Mr.Jinnah was educated in India, with an M.A, and an M.L from the University of Madras. A prolific speaker, he is fluent in English and Tamil.

In 2004, Jinnah was chosen as a Young Political Leader from India, for the yearly convention of the American Council of Young Political Leaders, among a pool of local, state and national nominations by Governors, Members of Parliament, National and State political party chairs, State legislative leaders, and corporate contributors. He was a special invitee to the July 4th American Independence day celebrations, where he enumerated the opinion that India should be made a permanent member of the
UN Security council.

Mr.Jinnah believes that altruism can move away and descend from rhetorical speeches to be part of day-to-day life, when the right citizens ascend positions of propriety – and he makes every effort to live by it.

He resides with his family in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
