Advocate

This term “advocate” is a little misleading – what am I advocating? Am I advocating anything at all? Of course this is my profession, where I am supposed to be advocating the right path to truth and clear the path to expression of truth. But most often, the profession is mired in an image that stands contrary to what it has been created.

While I don’t want to make any sweeping comments about the profession or its practitioners, I have often stood by my professional ethics viz., explain the limitations and what is exactly possible in the system to my clients and advise seekers, at times to the chagrin of those who are listening(including my clients). While it may not be possible to change the archaic nature of the profession and its validity to many things contemporary, what cannot be denied is that the judiciary is by far the greatest hope for the average citizen of this country, not by virtue of his helplessness, but by virtue of its ability to render justice to the average Indian, even if it takes time.

While I will not discuss about any of the cases that I have dealt with, in accordance to my professional code of ethics, I will use this platform to share my views on:

a) The greatness of the law in rendering justice to people seemingly deprived of it
b) Issues that plague our judicial system
c) The irony of law that comes in the way of actually rendering justice
d) Perspectives that must be considered towards interpreting a legal procedure and its implementation.
e) And of course, the fun of being a member of the bar! 😉
