Tolerance

Are We Tolerant?

We Indians are said to be the most tolerant people. We kind of accept everything. Anything and everything is “okay” for us.  Is this tolerance? Think!

We are the only nation where our national leaders died to the bullet, the best of our national icons are pulled down and ridiculed month-on-month, and we must be holding some sort of a record in the number of caste-and-community-conflicts and internal displacements we go through, year after year! In the personal space, I’ve seen quite a lot of brawls between families, right out in the open!

Are we tolerant? No, we are just indifferent.

We never step down and say who and what is hurting us at a personal level, until it bursts out one day. And then it takes on proportions that becomes difficult to manage. That is not to say, that all of us are bad – It is to accept that we need to change, collectively to truly become tolerant.

We must be able to define ourselves in the first place, to become tolerant of the other.

Tolerance is a virtue that comes out of clarity of self.

Spend a few minutes today defining, who and what you are. You will be able to appreciate others, better.
